My question is whether or not y'all think that Peyton has any military experience himself. He seems incredibly casual when asking the Federal soldier if there's anything he could do if he managed to outmaneuver the sentries. Peyton actually seems to be very confident that he'll be able to get past the guards. Then, when in the water, Peyton says "the next time
they will use a charge of grape," meaning he has some sort of knowledge about weaponry of that era.
Hmmmm....do you think it's Farquhar who has the military background or perhaps the author?
ReplyDeleteBTW - is anyone using the name Peyton to avoid spelling "Farquhar?" :D
I think the different comments Farquhar made (like the next charge they would use) and the things he noticed (like the gray eye) hint that maybe he himself maybe had some sort of military background or new a lot about it.
ReplyDeleteHmmm I was wondering about that too!! Maybe he or possibly his family members, close friends or others he was close to might have been in battle before. But then again he might just be a war enthusiast who attempts to keep in touch with everything going on, and is generally supportive and interested in war.
ReplyDeleteI think that Peyton had military background because when he was escaping, he knew what the different commands meant. Also, he knew that what the officer might command the soldiers after they fired independently.
ReplyDeleteYeah, He really seemed to know what was going on.
